On the “user” side I’m a huge fan of flower essences, they have helped me in the last few years. I first met them when I was overstressed at university. Then my rediscovery of the Bach essences was when I became totally overworked, overstressed, I was absolutely exhausted, I even surprised myself with adrenal fatigue. Nice, isn’t it? Flower remedies work and I often suggest them to my clients, my friends and family members but I’m not educated enough (yet) to write about them, so I asked Lisa to help me out.

Have you ever felt down or ill and had someone bring you flowers, only to find your mood lift? Maybe while spending time in the outdoors surrounded by nature you felt an attraction to wildflowers. Nature has the remedies for what ails us not only on a physical level, but emotional as well.
Dr. Edward Bach was an English homeopath. In the 1930’s he began to realize that there were certain moods associated with illnesses. He believed illnesses were manifested from something much deeper and there were emotional connections. Bach would continue to create healing remedies from flowers in the countryside. He thought dew on the flowers contained healing properties of a vibrational frequency which would help heal and harmonize the body, mind and spirit.
By the end of Dr. Bach’s life he had dedicated himself to creating 38 flower remedies. Bach flower essences are still found on shelves today as well as many others.
Flower essences are made from flowers and trees. Their subtle healing properties are infused in spring water with a touch of brandy for preserving. These remedies are similar to homeopathics.
They can help balance the body quite quickly. Children are especially receptive to the power of flower remedies. Since there is little taste children are usually cooperative with using them and are often even drawn to specific ones their body needs.
Flower remedies are safe for children or even babies, animals, plants and there are no concerns of interactions with medications or other treatments.
I have used flower essences with my children. When traveling I use a glass jar covered with a wool sleeve for protection. The glass jar is filled with filtered or spring water and a few drops of the chosen flower essence is placed into the water. The child can sip this through the day. Rescue Remedy is often the chosen remedy for general traveling or when we go into the city. It helps to relax and calm us all.
Flower essences work well for children that have emotional issues such as anger, resentment, fears and anxiety as well as those with stressful lifestyles. If a child is going through a transition such as parents divorcing, moving, a death or other change flower essences can be very helpful. There are individual essences that can be more specific to the individual or Rescue Remedy as a general choice.
For the highly sensitive children that find it difficult to go to school or be in places where there are a lot of people flower essences can be quite balancing.
Often children may be able to choose their own remedy. If not, someone who knows the child well can use a questionaire or consult with a professional.
To use a flower essence you can simply place a couple drops into a glass of water or a jar. Make sure it is glass since plastic can effect the vibrational frequency of the remedies. The remedies can be used straight from the bottle if desired. There are new modern forms of flower essences via pastilles, gum and creams. You always want to store your flower essences away from essential oils, electrical outlets, heat and technology.
Bach Rescue Remedy is a combination of five essences: Cherry Plum, Rock Rose, Impatiens, Clematis and Star of Bethlehem. Carrying a bottle of liquid Rescue Remedy along with you is a good practice for injuries, emergencies or sudden emotional upset. It is a great remedy for healing trauma especially when sleep is effected.
Each flower essence has it’s own healing properties. With various flower essences to choose from, it is simple to find one or a combination of remedies to help bring your body and emotions into balance. There are many books and self-tests which you can use to choose the best essence for yourself. Sometimes you may just feel attracted to a specific flower remedy. In this case it is likely the one you would benefit from. If you are not comfortable choosing the specific remedy for your needs you may want to consult with a professional.
There are times when the emotional connection to illness is overlooked. Flower essences are a way to help bring the body, mind and spirit back into balance for health and well-being.
